It seems the nearer we get to winter; the faster time goes. Can you believe we are in MAY! Winter is predicted to be an exceptionally long and very cold winter, and with the Lesotho Mountains already covered in snow, it’s hard to argue with the clever people!
The hot topic for this month has been the “My Buddy” scheme and the important role it is proving to play in our community. On a few occasions this month, we have sadly seen situations where the project would have been extremely useful had the people involved been enrolled.
Don’t think for a minute, this program is only for the Elderly, it is for anyone living alone. Slipping in the bathroom, falling down stairs or having a heart attack is not exclusive to the elderly! If you live alone, join the scheme and be sure of having a daily call from your “Buddy”. It may just save your life.
Please contact Wendy on 083 670 0561, who will explain the scheme and connect you with a Buddy.
On other news, the Hely Hutchinson refurbishment project may finally be completed now that a recent wage dispute has been resolved. We have however heard that, due to defects in the material supplied, 2 sections of the road will have to be resurfaced. It has been a long-drawn-out process, severely impacted by Covid, but with particular thanks to Christo Kelsey of Scribante, we are sure that all will agree that Mtunzini has a main street that we can all be proud of. We are also grateful to the Municipality for bringing forward this important investment in our town.
The installation of all the new security cameras in the village have proved to have had a positive impact on keeping crime levels as low as possible. We are hoping to get quite a few more units up in the near future. Please join the MRA and help to share the load of paying for village security. Opportunities exist for individual homeowners, or groups of homeowners to join the monitored camera network. For more information, contact Jeremy on 0761632515.
Have a Happy May and be sure to get your winter woollies out of storage!
